As the only national association in Canada representing the views and interests of private and dedicated fleets, The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada recognizes the utmost importance of representing the views and interests of our members. We are committed to providing expanded educational and networking opportunities to our members throughout this great country.

 As stated by PMTC President Mike Millian:

“During the past 8 years, the PMTC has been hosting events in Western Canada, Ontario and  Eastern Canada. We have also participated in numerous consultations and stakeholder meetings with the federal, provincial, and territorial governments on a wide range of subjects. Our goal is to ensure that the views of our members are represented and heard. 

While we believe that we have been effectively representing our members from coast to coast in recent years, our board of directors feels that it is time to take the next step. As a result, we are looking to hire someone who resides in the western region of Canada, to ensure we have boots on the ground, someone who has their ear to the ground and understands what is important to our members,"

The job will start out as a part-time role on a contract basis, with the opportunity for the role to expand within the PMTC.

PMTC Chair, Steve Lawn, went on to say. "It has always been the goal of the PMTC to have individuals in each region of the country to ensure that we can represent our members as effectively as possible in every jurisdiction. After several successful years, the PMTC is now in a strong financial position to increase our spending and allocate resources to initiate this process. OROVILLE, Wash. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations would like to announce dates for an upcoming NEXUS and FAST enrollment event held by CBP and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at the Oroville/Osoyoos land border Port of Entry.  The event will take place on Sept. 12-13, where CBP and CBSA will conduct interviews for conditionally approved FAST/NEXUS applicants.

NEXUS is a voluntary expedited clearance initiative for pre-approved low-risk international travelers.  Membership in the program allows members to reduce their wait times at designated ports of entry by:

  • Using NEXUS processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry.
  • Using NEXUS kiosks when entering Canada by air,
  • using Global Entry kiosk when entering the United States, and
  • if arriving by sea, reporting arrival into the U.S. and Canada by calling a marine telephone reporting center.

The Trusted Traveler Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program is a commercial clearance program that allows expedited processing for commercial carriers who have completed background checks and fulfill certain eligibility requirements.  FAST enrollment is open to truck drivers from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Travelers interested in applying for NEXUS/FAST membership need to apply online utilizing the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) Enrollment System at https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov.  The $50 application fee allows for five years of membership.  Once an individual applies online, they will undergo a background investigation.  If no disqualifying information is found, they will receive a conditional letter of approval through their TTP account.  They may then utilize the online scheduling tool in their TTP account to confirm an appointment for the event. 

“CBP recognizes there is a high demand for NEXUS/FAST program membership, and we are hoping to meet that demand by partnering with local stakeholders to hold enrollment events in locations that are geographically convenient for conditionally approved applicants to complete their required interview with a CBP officer,” said Harmit Gill, Area Port Director.

As of September 1, 2023, the air brake knowledge test will no longer be available for renewal purposes. Drivers who wish to renew their air brake endorsement will instead be required to complete the online learning module prior to renewing their driver’s licence. Please see further details below:

Renew your air brake endorsement:

Renewing your driver’s licence with a (Z) endorsement before September 1, 2023

  • Current rules are still in effect for non-DCP air brake endorsement holders: you must complete the air brake knowledge test at a DriveTest Centre or through a Driver Certification Program organization.

Renewing your driver’s licence with a (Z) endorsement on or after September 1, 2023

  • All air brake endorsement holders must complete the air brake learning module online before going to a DriveTest Centre to renew. As of September 1, 2023, the air brake knowledge test will no longer be required or available for renewals.

Drivers may complete the air brake learning module: 

  • Through their DCP location, or
  • Online at home/other location of their choice.

  • You must have your driver’s licence with you to start the learning module.
  • After completing the learning module, download or print the “Certificate of Completion.”
  • Bring the digital or printed copy of your “Certificate of Completion” and your driver’s licence to a DriveTest centre or your Driver Certification Program organization.
  • If you hold a commercial class (A, B, C, D, E or F) driver’s licence, you will need to complete the vision and commercial class knowledge test in person at a DriveTest Centre or through your Driver Certification Program organization.
