The following interview was conducted with Dr. Alyssa Grocutt following her presentation at the PMTC Western Canada Conference, where she discussed the broader impacts of workplace incidents on families and communities.
What drew you to study the broader impact of workplace incidents?
My interest in workplace safety, and specifically secondary victims of safety incidents, stems from my dad’s death in 2008 when I was 11 years old. He died in a workplace safety incident working in the Alberta Oil Sands as a heavy-duty mechanic. That experience sparked my interest in researching safety and trying to make a difference in the workplace.
